Listen to Your Gut By Jini Patel

“The complete natural healing program for IBS and IBD.”  Jini Patel is an IBD superstar.  She is an internationally recognized expert on natural healing methods for digestive diseases.  She is the author of several books.  And the creator of many healing products for IBD.  Including Elemental Gold (Absorb Plus) the semi-elemental drinks that can help induce remission, read my experience here.

Jini Patel tells her story of how she healed herself from severe Crohn’s disease.  And how she has stayed in remission for 20+ years without the use of medications.

If you are interested in healing your gut, then this book is the place to start. She has inspired thousands with her practical tips, healing remedies, and informative website.

The book contains specific instructions on herbal supplements for a wide range of digestive disorders.   Including complications of IBD, diarrhea, pain, and urgency.

Breaking the Vicious Cycle – Elaine Gottschall

IBD Book Recommendations

This is probably one of the most widely read books for IBD sufferers looking at diet to heal their body.  This book discusses the Specific Carbohydrate Diet – what it is, and why it works.

She explains in detail the science behind food interactions and IBD.  It also includes recipes, and tips for living the SCD lifestyle.

Gottschall is a biochemist, and cell biologist.  She was the mother of a child diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.  Her book, and website are filled with quotes from people who have been helped by the SCD diet.

The diet that I have followed, the IBD AID, is based on the SCD diet.

The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle

IBD Book Recommendations

I have committed to reading (or listening) to this book once a year.  It is life changing.

I enjoy this book better as an audio book.  The content can be a bit heavy, and I have found it easier to understand if someone is reading it aloud to me.

Unlike the other two books listed above, it is not about IBD specifically.  It is about focusing on the ever present NOW.

Chronic health issues can have a huge impact on our mental health.  This book helped remind me that nothing else is actually real – except for this present moment.  Worrying about the past, or having anxiety about the future does nothing.  You can only control the NOW.

Every single sentence of this book has meaning.  Tolle is a true revolutionary, and this book is extraordinary.

If you have no experience with meditation, or mindfulness, you may find this book a little heavy.  This book is not necessarily for beginners.

I hope at least one of these books has sparked your interest.  There are so many people out there who have stories to share.  And have had experiences that we can all learn from. Reading these stories is an empowering way to learn about healing, nutrition, and alternative therapies.  Which can ultimately lead us to better understanding our own bodies.

Check back here for part 2 in the series of IBD book recommendations, coming out August 2023.
